May is upon us which means funny skies and packed parks.  We’re focusing on activities near Denver this time around because mud season in the mountains gets, well, muddy.

Civic Center Eats (May 1st – 31st)

It’s the best time of the year for dining outside in the warm Colorado sun.  And what better food to eat than that of Denver’s amazing food truck scene?  As per tradition, the Civic Center Eats program begins again starting May 1st serving food from 20+ food trucks every Tuesday and Thursday during lunch throughout the summer.

Art War: A Star Wars Party on May the Fourth (May 4th)

May the Fourth Be with You is the dorkiest holiday of all, as illustrated by its very name, but the only way to celebrate it properly is at the quirky Curtis Hotel.  The artistic gathering brings together 30+ artists with pieces inspired by a place far, far away.  Tickets are just $15 and dressing the part is encouraged.  This is the perfect primer for the latest Star Wars movie to reach theaters later this month, Solo: A Star Wars Story.

TheBigWonderful (May 5th – 6th)

Not feeling like forking up the dough for the big Derby Party in Denver this year but still want to enjoy the race?  Head over to TheBigWonderful which will be providing food trucks, a bazaar with local vendors, live music, and, of course, multiple screens showing the Kentucky Derby.  If mint juleps aren’t doing it for you then you can still be festive with a margarita as it is Cinco de Mayo as well!

Whiskey Throwdown and Doughnut Showdown (May 19th)

Whiskey and doughnuts…’nuff said.

OK, we’ll elaborate a bit but obviously this is a no-brainer decision to attend.  For just $39 you can attend and sample every sugary item and peaty libation you can imagine.  Prepare yourself for some gluttony and set your own body-image expectations after this one, but it’s well worth the price!

Denver Day of Rock (May 26th)

Five stages host a plethora of local bands throughout this fun-filled rock-a-thon.  There will be plenty of vendors and drink specials throughout the 16th Street Mall and it will be easy to make a day out of the event.  Consider taking Uber or light rail as parking will be expensive and you may as well allow yourself a few drinks to loosen up those dancing feet.
